Greetings SEMBBers! Thanks to members who came out last week to the Den. Unfortunately, the outcome was less than satisfactory. So here we are in week 7, and the Browns sit at 1-5. Its not been anywhere close to the expecations a lot of fans had before the season started, that’s for sure.
So long to Amari Cooper–he gave us a lot of thrills the last couple of years, but I’ll hold off on well-wishes until I see how he plays for Buffalo (current stories circulating in the Cleveland media is that he was phoning it in every week because of dissatisfaction at not getting a contract extension). Time will tell.
The announcement came this week that the Browns will be going ahead and building a new stadium complex in Brookpark. Personally, I would have preferred that the organization focus on building a consistent, competitive and winning team rather than a new stadium. But, then I’m a traditionalist–I prefer watching Browns home games in the open on the lake shore in December and January!END OF A LONG ROAD TRIP Well, the Browns fell short against the Eagles last Sunday. Despite spotting the Eagles to an early 10 point lead, the Browns clawed back to tie the game in the second quarter–after a Myles Garrett block on the Eagles field goal try and a scoop and score by Rodney McLeod.
The third quarter went back and fourth with the Eagles going ahead on a field goal and the Browns later tieing things up shortly afterwards. Unfortunately, the fourth quarter was out undoing–missed assignments, dumb penalties at crucial times, sloppy play and questionable play calling sealed our fate.
Overall, the Defense looked better than they had in previous games, and the offense showed a little improvement…but not enough. Unfortunately, the only change that has hapened was the Cooper trade; it doesn’t look like they’ll be any change under center. And, of course, the injuries keep piling up.
BROWNS HOSTING THE BUNGLES ON SUNDAY Our Brownies are back home for a three game home stand. First up, the 2-4 Bungles from Cincytucky. Both teams are banged up, especially on their respective offensive lines.
It is very likely the Boo Birds will be in attendance at the Stadium when Deshaun Watson takes the field. Unfortunately, it may be an exercise in futility.
Regardless of the records of both teams, history has shown that the two yearly ‘Battle For Ohio” games have been tough and entertaining contests.
Kickoff is 1 pm. The local CBS affiliate will not be broadcasting the game, opting to show the Texans-Packers game instead. So, come on to over to the Den this Sunday to commiserate with your fellow fans and club members.
That’s it for this week except, of course, always and forever…
GO BROWNS!!! |
