Week 8 (RAVENS): Quick Email On The Past Week And This Sunday

Greetings SEMBBers!First, my thanks to the members who came out last Sunday and suffered through the loss to the Bengals.

Sunday started things off the rails and it continued that way through most of the week. A WACKY WEEK OF HAPPENINGS
The Browns lost to the Bengals on Sunday. In general, the team looked disorganized and allowed Joe Burrows to finally got a win against us.

Of course, the bigger news is that Deshawn Watson is out for the year (and maybe for good) after blowing out his achilles tendon. Fans booed him during the pregame introductions, and some (unfortunately, but somehat understandably) cheered when he went down with the injury. I don’t condone what the fans in the stadium did but understand the release of emotions since he has been the focus of a lot of fans’ frustrations these past few years. Its even more telling on our frustration since he played a relatively decent game the first quarter (at least better than he had this seson) before the injury.Interestingly enough, it appears that the coaches were ready to bench him since reports came out saying that Dorsey told DTR to be ready. The DTR move was somewhat of a head scratcher, but early on–when he came in relief of Watson–he did show some of that flash that endeared him to fans last year. Unfortunately, the fans entusiasm faded quickly and the HE got injured and we had to go to our emergency QB. (The finger’s fine and he will back up Jameis Winston this Sunday.)Have to mention it was good to see Nick Chubb back in uniform. He didn’t play a lot but did score a touchdown that got the fans in the stadium cheering and on their feet.Of course, the rest of the week things continued on in Factory Of Sadness fashion:Browns players reacted negatively to the fans cheering Watson’s injury. Granted the ctriticism was somewhat justified, but going beyond that and shoring up Watson’s questionable character and calling him a ‘solid citizen’ was a bit much. Winston, at least, later backpedaled and tried to mend fences with fans after it was clear he would start on Sunday. The Haslam Sports Group filed suit against the City of Clevelan in an attempt to vacate the Modell Law preventing them from moiving to Brookpark. Honestly, the more I read about the Brookpark development, the more I feel like Haslam is trying to build a rich person’s playground and will be excluding the heart and soul of Browns’ fandom–the middle class, average Joe worker. The one good bit of news this week is that Stefanski has turned over play calling duties to Dorsey. Read into that what you will, but at least it removes one glaring criticism off his back. Will it change anything, who knows? Guess we’ll find out Sunday.THE RATBIRDS COME IN TO TOWN
Speaking of Sunday, the Browns host the Ratbirds at the stadium. Its a 1 pm kickoff. Once again, the game will not be broadcast by the local CBS affiliate.

Yes, I know the odds are not in our favor, but let’s see how a Watson-less offense does witha week of practicing with Jameis Winston. The O-line is shuffled again, but Baltimore comes in with a battered secondary.

Susan is still recovering from the flu and is doubtful to host tomorrow. Also, due to scheduling, we will not have the room tomorrow. The Den, however, will reserve a couple of large tables for us in the main dining room.

That’s it for this week except, of course, always and forever…

  GO BROWNS!!!
