Greetings SEMBBers!
Its nice to have a week to bask in a win. We got one tough game Sunday and then, mercifully, have a bye.
AN ENJOYABLE WIN It’s a rare, but enjoyable, occurrence watching the Browns give a butt-whooping on a Sunday. Too often we’re the ones getting whooped.
It was a whole team win, with key plays from all three units. – On offense, Dillon Gabriel did a good job keeping control of the ball and not making any rookie mistakes, and going 13 for 18 for 116 yards and a decent 89.1 QBR. Nothing to write home about, but he also didn’t turn the ball over. But the story on Offense was Quinshon Judkins–I think the Browns got very lucky picking him early in the second round. Since his debut in Week 2 he has simply gotten stronger week after week. I hope we’ve found our stud running back. Oh, and honorable mention goes to Harold Fannin Jr. who continues to lead all rookies in receptions this season. – Special teams shown in this game. Szmyt made all his kicks and hopefully is settling down. Bojorquez was his usual effective self, averaging 43 net yards per punt and booting a couple deep in Miami territory pinning the Dolphins back. The cherry on top was that massive hit on Dee Eskridge’s kickoff return causing him to fumble and us to recover. – The Defense–what more can I say about it. Still #1 in the league and a factor that every team has to address. Four sacks, three interceptions (including a pick six) and just a dominant performance against Miami. A special shout out to Taylor Campbell, who had the aforementioned interception for a touchdown. I think we got the better end of that trade.
All in all, despite the rainy weather, Browns fans left the stadium in a great mood after this victory.
ON TO FOXBOROUGH Our 2-5 Browns are heading to Massachusetts to be hosted by the 5-2 Mike Vrabel lead Patriots. I won’t sugar coat it, it will be a tough test. New England is coming off of a third straight win, and are favored to win by seven points. The story is gong to be Drake Maye and the Patriots offense against Myles Garrett and company on the Browns defense. It will be interesting on how the offense will fair against a decent New England defense. Good news is that Jerry Jeudy and David Njoku are back at practice, albeit in a limited fashion. Of course, I think the focus will be on Judkins and the run game.
Kickoff is 1 pm. The game WILL NOT be broadcast locally.
I’ll be at the Den for kickoff, joined by my daughter Jessica and granddaughter Jaycee. So come on over to the Den and join us to cheer on the Browns!
That’s all for now except, of course, always and forever…
GO BROWNS!!!
