Week 6 – Bye, Bye Joe. Hello Pukesburg. (Browns@Steelers)

Greetings SEMBBers

Well, last Sunday’s game could have gone better, wait no, SHOULD have gone better. Dillon Gabriel did a good job running the offense for most of the game, although execution in the last real possession left something to be desired. Execution aside, I believe the play calling by Stefanski was what eventually did us is (throwing (incomplete) on third down when you’re trying to run the clock down? Really?). Still, Gabriel’s performance probably aided in the decision to trade Flacco. Unfortunately, that leaves us with Sanders as our #2., and I’m just not that comfortable with that.

But the blame for the loss needs to be shared–Schwartz’s Defense, while still playing a decent game, was caught flatfooted on that wildcat in the 1st and the soft coverage in the final minutes of the game did what prevent defenses do–prevented us from winning.

Still, despite the loss, this was one of the better outings the team has had this year.

SO LONG, JOE!
Yes, he was not having a stellar season. Yes, he didn’t seem to click at times with his receivers, but I am sad to see Joe Flacco go. If, for no other reason than the fact that we really don’t’ have another veteran presence in the QB room (and yes, I know Watson is around but so what?).

Gabriel’s performance was enough to make Flacco expendable, I get that…but to trade him to a conference rival???

Maybe it will turn out OK, but past history has proven, time and again, otherwise.

Oh, and also a goodbye to CB Greg Newsome II, traded to the Jaguars for CB Tyson Campbell. I’m ambivalent about this trade, although on paper it looks good since Newsome was in the last year of his contract, while Campbell is under contract through the 2028 season. Now its wait and see how this pans out.

ON TO PUKESBURG
The long-term members are fully aware of the animosity and disdain that I hold for that NFL team from Western PA. Aside from the Browns winning games, nothing gives me greater pleasure than to see the urine and gangrene clad Squealers go down to defeat. I think that gives you an idea of how I feel.

So, the 1-4 Browns will be visiting the 3-1 Pukesburg team this Sunday.  It’s Miles Garret and the Defense against the aging wonder Aaron Rogers and his offense. It’s Stefanski against Tomlin–surprisingly both egos should fit in Acrisure Stadium, but it will be a close call.

Kickoff is 1 pm. We’ll be hosting our regular viewing at the Den, and I’d like to invite all of you to come join me and the other club officers and attend. Let’s cheer on the Browns and maybe, just maybe, fortune will smile upon us and they can pull out a win.

That’s all for now except, of course, always and forever…

GO BROWNS!!!
