Greetings SEMBBers! Well, Week 1 is in the books, and with an ending we’re all too familiar with. Quinshon Judkins has finally signed, though when he’ll actually play is an entirely different matter. And, yes, the Browns are sticking with Andre Szmyt…at least for this week.
Also, we were informed Sunday afternoon that a couple of viewing attendees forgot to pay their $90 tab. I’m hoping that you will read this and get the matter settled quickly.
A CLOSE LOSS AT HOME
It was a pretty good and entertaining game Sunday, despite the final outcome. A one-point loss is always the hardest. The Offense statistically dominated the game and Flacco looked pretty good for an old guy, save for the two flubbed passes that turned into interceptions. The Running game was anemic, though we did score a rushing TD. Cedric Tillman is looking like he’s finally turning into a good #2 receiver and a good compliment to Jerry Jeudy. It will be interesting later in the season when Judkins gets up to game speed.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well the Defense played, considering how they were maligned during the preseason. Three back-to-back sacks–two by Miles Garrett and the third by Shelby Harris (if only he was a bit quicker, he could have got a safety).
And now, the elephant in the room. While Corey Bojorquez was his usual efficient self, the debut of Andre Szmyt was wanting. Missing the PAT left us one point shy of a tie, but missing the potential game winning field goal was devastating. Yes, Andre, you have been awarded the goat horns for the game loss.
ON TO THE RATBIRDS
This Sunday, the Browns travel to Baltimore for a 1 pm game against the Ratbirds. Yes, it will be a tough game. Yes, we are currently 11.5 point underdogs. But, the Browns looked better than I think anyone expected this past Sunday, so I’m hopeful it will be a closer game than expected. And, it is Joe Flacco’s first return to Baltimore since his release several years ago.Of course, the Ratbird organization has decided to ratchet it up even more (at least from a fans perspective), they are planning to celebrate their 30th season in the NFL during the game. Many of us remember how the Ravens came into being at our expense. What is particularly galling is that Sashi Brown, currently president of that organization, should have known better, but apparently he doesn’t care about the fans and organization that he once was a part of.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Again, let me appeal to the couple who forgot to pay their tab last Sunday–please take care of it as soon as possible. On another note, we are still working on a pre game bash on Saturday, the 27th for the Lions game. A question to all of you: If we cannot secure an alumni appearance, would you still be willing to attend a bash?
That’s all for now except, of course, always and forever…
GO BROWNS!!!
